About The Home
Builders Association
of Greater Dallas (HBA)

Mission Statement
The Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas, chartered in 1944, is an
organization representing all segments of the residential building industry in
the Dallas Metropolitan area. Its mission is to enhance its members' ability to
provide safe, affordable, quality housing to the citizens of the local
communities.
The Association does this by:
- Promoting positive public policy through active participation in the
legislative and regulatory processes;
- Providing industry information and education to the members and the
public;
- Enhancing the positive image of the industry and the members through
training, and encouraging ethical behavior and professional standards;
- Forging partnerships with the public, and governments, to achieve
resolution of mutual community issues; and
- Making membership in the Association an essential element of a successful
residential building industry company.
Structure
The Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas (HBA) is a non-profit trade
organization chartered by the State of Texas, and which has been granted tax
exempt status under Section 501 (c)(6) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
Its Builder members are engaged in single- and multifamily building, land
development, remodeling and rehab and general light construction. Its Associate
members are companies and individuals who provide materials, products, financing
and many other services, including subcontracting, to builders and developers.
The Association is governed by an elected Board of Directors that directs
policies and operations of the Association according to its Bylaws. An Executive
Committee is the policy, finance and steering committee of the HA, and oversees
affairs of the Association between meetings of the Directors, subject to actions
of the Board. The Officers are charged by the Bylaws with specific duties.
A professional staff is retained to implement Association policies and to
carry out the work of the Association, major elements of which are governmental
affairs and community relations, education and training, communications,
meetings and programs, administration of the HBA business affairs, management
aids and materials and many other types of membership services.
Established in 1944 as an affiliate of the National Association of Home
Builders (NAHB), the HBA has a seven-county jurisdiction: Dallas, Collin,
Denton, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman and Rockwall. This area covers 5,542 square miles
and has a population of almost 4 million. It is additionally affiliated with the
Texas Association of Builders (TAB).
This means that members of the Greater Dallas Association automatically are
also members if the NAHB and TAB. Together, the three Associations - local,
state and national - form one of the nation's largest and strongest trade
organizations, as befits an industry of such fundamental importance.
Together, the Associations comprise the only organization working around the
clock exclusively in the interest of residential builders and developers.
